Primary Job Duties
$19.50 hr
Core Duties:
Deliver informed, consultative customer service by helping customers select products based on project goals and skill level
Accurately cut fabric to customer specifications and manage multiple sales during high-traffic periods
Operate POS system, handle transactions, and basic inventory lookups
Maintain clean, organized, and visually appealing sales floor
Restock inventory, track low-stock items, and communicate replenishment needs to management
Support loss prevention by following cash handling procedures and monitoring store activity
Sales & Customer Experience:
Actively engage customers to understand project intent and recommend complementary products (thread, notions, tools)
Foster and maintain a creative and supportive store atmosphere
Assist with intake and returns of additional services (e.g. Steve Kraft, Mr. Repair Inc.)
Upsell and cross-sell in a natural, non-pushy way to increase average transaction value
Build repeat business by recognizing returning customers and maintaining a helpful, knowledgeable presence
Assist beginner customers with basic guidance to reduce friction and build confidence
Product Knowledge of what the store offers and other external resources
Develop working knowledge of fabric types, use cases, and care requirements
Understand basic sewing and crafting techniques to better assist customers
Stay current on new inventory, seasonal trends, and featured products
Explain differences in quality, pricing, and appropriate use of materials
Operations & Store Support:
Assist inventory manager with inventory related operations
Assist with inventory counts and cycle counts
Prepare online or pickup orders
Support in-store events, classes, or workshops (setup, customer assistance, cleanup)
